Attend Our Spring Concert, We Are Phoenix!
On May 10th and 11th, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at the Peterborough Town House we will be performing the New England premiere of We Are Phoenix by Timothy Takach.
The Monadnock Chorus is one of a consortium of choruses nationwide who have commissioned this exciting new work. Through poetry from multiple authors, We Are Phoenix illuminates the analogy between humans and our planet: we both suffer loss and devastation and yet rise again and again, becoming stronger each time.
Joining us in this performance will be Soprano soloist Jennifer Bates and the Boston-based Opus String quartet, consisting of Violinists An-Chi Lin and Cheng-Yeh Tsou, Violist Jason Wang and Cellist Pin-Hsuan Chen.
We will also be performing the following short works:
Earth Song by Frank Ticheli
O Primavera, gioventù dell’anno by Claudio Monteverdi
The Road Home by Stephen Paulus
MEET MORGAN BOTHWELL, OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Morgan Bothwell is Artistic Director of Monadnock Chorus. Morgan currently teaches and conducts at Keene State and Franklin Pierce University. He has strong ties to the Monadnock Region and brings years of vocal performance experience to his new role. After earning degrees in Vocal Performance from Millikin University and Wichita State University, Morgan returned to New Hampshire to pursue choral education work, while continuing to perform in vocal ensembles and operas, primarily in Boston and New York.
A few comments from Morgan: “My family has lived in Keene for many years and I have long been a fan of the Monadnock Chorus. The chorus brings so much to the region— high quality music and culture, of course, but also a connection with other lovers of wonderful music making. At a young age, I moved from my family home in Keene to join the American Boychoir, based in New Jersey. That institution sparked my love for choral singing and would lay the foundation for who I am now as a musician.”
Singers of All Levels Welcome!
Monadnock Chorus, founded in 1959, is fortunate to be part of the vital arts community that encompasses the Monadnock Region. Our core mission is to provide choral singing opportunities for area residents and to bring quality choral music to the Monadnock Region. Key to our long term success is the promotion of choral singing as an art form among residents of all ages. We prepare and perform four ticketed concerts each year--two in December and two in May. A smaller choral ensemble, the Monadnock Chorus Chamber Singers, prepares and performs six or more concerts each year in different venues throughout the Monadnock Region.
SING! and ELO-MC
The Monadnock Chorus hopes to increase a love of choral singing among young people via our SING! and ELO-MC initiatives. Monadnock Chorus waives all membership costs for students who are accepted.
Forty Towns
We recently embarked upon an initiative to sing in all 40 towns in the Monadnock region over time.
“Some concerts are very beautiful. This concert was transformational.”
